Prometheus

So I ventured to the cinema on Friday to watch Prometheus (obviously) and to see if Michael Fassbender's awful blonde hair was worth it. And trust me, it was, the film has gotten a lot of criticism from critics and fans alike but every single review I have read has had the same positive comment, Michael's portrayal of  futuristic android David. I went to see the film simply because my favourite actor is in it and having seen every single one of his films, I realised that I had to see this one. Sci - Fi isn't really a genre I'm interested in (with the exception of Star Wars and Doctor Who) so I was expecting to be bored by Prometheus but I was pleasantly surprised and whilst I'm aware that it wasn't what die hard fans were hoping for I found it enjoyable and, as always, 'Fassy' gave an indisputably incredible performance that completely stole the show. The film is worth seeing for his performance alone.
I also bought this month's Glamour magazine which featured a short but lovely article entitled "Five reasons we love the Fass" which I obviously enjoyed, this month was also the issue where Glamour name their 'women of the year' and as always they have one male award which is unsurprisingly 'man of the year' an award I thought would go to Fassbender due to his sudden invasion of the movie world but no, instead the award went to Tom Hiddleston which I was actually very happy about as Hiddleston is also one of my favourite actors and comes a very close second in my affections :P

Book to Film Adaptations

As this blog suggests, I love films! However, I also love books, and one thing that I've discovered is that films adapted from books are very rarely as good as their source material. The recent and very successful release of the Hunger Games is a rare adaptation as it also lives up to Suzanne Collins's dystopian trilogy, although I did read the books over a year ago so this could simply be a case of my memory of the books dwindling.
The main thing that i love about books is the characters, shove Sirius Black into a novel about Golf (one of the most boring sports of all time) and I will still love it, so when books are adapted into films I'm not bothered if they change the plot completely as long as my beloved characters are still the same. One example of this is the adaptation of Sophie Kinsella's 'Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic' or, as the film was known, 'Confessions of a Shopaholic', whilst the story changed significantly, transporting Becky Bloomwood from the British countryside to the Big Apple and making her millionaire businessman boyfriend her boss, but despite this Becky was still clumsy, naive and totally ridiculous so I still loved the film.
Only one book has ever inspired a better film, my favourite film of all time, a film so incredible that even the book's author, Chuck Palahniuk, said it was an improvement on his 1996 novel 'Fight Club'. Admittedly, I watched the film before I read the book which certainly makes a difference to the opinion formed about the adaptation, but Brad Pitt and Edward Norton bring their characters to life so perfectly that it's hard to believe the parts weren't written for them and David Fincher's near perfect direction begs the question "why has this man never won a frikkin' Oscar?!?"
Another film that is an excellent adaptation, although it could never match the original novel, is 'A Clockwork Orange', mainly due to Malcolm McDowell's mesmerizing performance as the iconic protagonist, Alex.
Most disappointing adaptations are typical 'weepy' films, 'PS I Love You' and 'The Time Traveler's Wife' spring to mind when thinking of books which are unique and beautiful but spawn distinctly average films which have barely half the emotion of the original story. The general consensus among book fans is that their celluloid adaptations are never quite as good, an opinion I completely agree with.

Fassbender Friday (Delayed Birthday Edition)

So this post is going to be and unofficial Fassbender Friday.
Mainly because it was his birthday on Monday, he turned 35, only 16 years older than me which, in my opinion, is totally acceptable for when he chooses to fall in love with me :)
Also, i am writing the worst essay of my life so will welcome any distraction even if i am deep down scared that i will not be able to write another 1,800 words by tomorrow, but back to 'Fassy'.
So being the sad person that i am i decided to celebrate Michael Fassbender's birthday (no i did not throw a party, that would be sad even for me) instead i just told all my flatmates that it was his birthday and watched one of his films (X-Men First Class) one of his best films but one where he is Irish when i'm not sure if he is meant to be, but who really cares when there are people who can change their looks, read minds and move metal a German man with an Irish is the least of our worries.
I was also quite amused that one of my flatmates actually said to my other flatmates "what if it does actually happen though?" in reference to me one day dating Michael (which i often joke i will) and my answer is although it is extremely extremely unlikely (never say never, in the words of the eternal 12 year old Justin Bieber) it worked for Katie Holmes who once had posters of Tom Cruise on her wall and is now married to him (which i find a bit weird) but there are, as of yet, no Michael Fassbender posters on my wall, however i have many of Brad Pitt and dating him is even more unlikely so i don't think the poster thing will work.
But as i have pointed out to my friends, i am, unfortunately not Michael's type he has had 3 girlfriends since he has become well known and all 3 are very attractive, mixed race, slim women, i am an average looking, very pale, slightly overweight girl, in other words, the total opposite of his type, bad times. However, i am younger than him which seems to be another theme, so with that, my eternal hope of one day being Michael Fassbender's 'other half' lives on!

P.S - I have now decided that each of my posts will now end with a movie quote, and on posts about Fassbender, i will put a quote from one of his films, enjoy :P

Fassbender Friday

So i totally forgot about Fassbender Friday last week which is awful of me so this may become Fassbender Friday Fortnights :P
This post comes with some very very sad news regarding "Fassy" (as my flatmate has renamed him) he has a girlfriend and she kind of confirms that he does indeed have a 'type' that being hot, mixed raced women i do not fit into either of these criteria which makes me very sad. But, i will say that as a Fassbender fan, i hope he is happy although i know he would be happier with me (i kid i'm not a crazy stalker fangirl who thinks we belong together however much this blog may suggest that i am :P)

This is Michael with his new girlfriend Nicole Beharie who was in Shame with him, this is them on a not so attractive day for both of them (yes that is truly how hot they both are)
Annnyway, must go drown my sorrows by eating lots of fatty foods and watching Fassbender get naked (which he does a lot) in Fish Tank (incase you didn't know that's the title of one of his films, i haven't kidnapped him and locked him in an actual Fish Tank, that would be weird)

Fassbender Friiiidaaaay :)

As promised here is my very first Fassbender Friday post :)
Soooo i am totally aware that not many people actually know who Michael Fassbender is so i will tell you a few facts about him:
- He is half Irish, half German.
- He has won numerous awards including 2 Independent British Film Awards, 3 IFTA's and Best Actor at the 2011 Venice Film Festival.
- He has been nominated for 2 BAFTA's and 1 Golden Globe Award. - He performed in the play "Allegiance" at the 2006 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, he also produced, directed and starred in a stage adaptation of the cult film "Reservoir Dogs".
- His first 'big Hollywood film' was Zack Snyder's 300 whcih also starred Gerard Butler.
- His 2 most critically acclaimed performances were for his roles in films directed by the artist Steve Mcqueen, "Hunger" and "Shame".
- He is the most beautiful man alive <3
They're just a few facts about it and just incase you don't know what he looks like, here is a picture :)
(I know i may seem crazy obsessed but he is a truly incredible actor, if you've never seen him in anything go and watch "Hunger", "Fish Tank" and "Shame" you will not regret it)

First Post :)

So, I was going to post my first blog yesterday to comment on the Oscars but I was a bit to busy :)

Anyway, the reason I'm blogging about the Oscars is because I am film obsessed.
I have to admit that I was slightly disappointed by the Oscars, not because I didn't agree with who won because I totally did, The Artist is such an incredible and unique film but they were just so predictable but they've been that way for a number of years now and it just gets quite boring :/

As I said, I am totally film obsessed, my room is covered in film posters and my DVD collection is rather vast, so this blog will mainly revolve around films I love, films i've seen and the whole film industry and as suggested by my lovely flatmate Jordan I will be having "Fassbender Friday's" in honour of my rather embarrassing obsession with Michael Fassbender :)
